Olfactory pyramid
The olfactory pyramid forms the structure and architecture of a perfume, it includes 3 levels: the notes. First the top notes, then the heart notes and finally the base notes. The three levels of the olfactory pyramid correspond to the different scents of a perfume, more or less intense, which will bring your perfume to life differently throughout the day.
Top notes are the first smells perceived when applying the perfume, middle notes represent the heart of the perfume and base notes are the scents that persist the longest.
The top notes of a perfume are generally fresh and light, they are the first olfactory impressions that we feel. They generally include citrus, green notes or aromatic notes. Lasts on the skin: approximately 15 to 30 minutes.
The heart notes are the essence of the perfume and are revealed once the top notes have dissipated. They are often floral, fruity or spicy, bringing depth and character to the perfume. Lasts on the skin: approximately 4 to 6 hours.
Finally, the base notes are the most long-lasting and persist long after application. They are rich, warm, sensual, including ingredients such as wood, musk, patchouli and vanilla. Lasts on the skin: Up to 24 hours.
This combination of notes creates a harmonious and complex olfactory composition that defines the identity of a perfume.
